On March 1st 2016, the franco-ontarian singer-songwriter Janie Renée will be launching her 3rd album titled « Eden is a Bazar » at La Nouvelle Scène in Ottawa.

Known as an “unconventional” artist, Janie has had a love affair with words ever since she can remember.  Nominated in 2015 in the Best Singer-Songwriter category at the Trille Or gala, she proposes an immersion in a parallel world where jazz progressions, Latin rhythms and clever lyrics collide to create her signature “hybrid jazz”.  Since her last album, “Les Valises” launched in late 2012, her luggage has seen a few continents and numerous countries in Europe, Austria but mainly in the Caribbean where her career gained a particular momentum from her showcase at the Carimex Martinique.

In her world-jazz universe, L’Éden est un Bazar offers twelve original pieces, through which Janie Renée creates a voluptuous atmosphere: you’ll find swing, bossas, biguines, sambas, tangos- layered with sometimes humorous and boisterous lyrics, but all in good taste.  She has been compared to contemporaries such as Claude Nougaro or Henri Salvador, but the truth is, she is quite unique in her special blend of jazz…

L’Éden est un Bazar proposes a detour through the “Belle Époque” of Paris with songs like “Le Diner Solitaire” or “La Goguette du Chat Noir”—an ode to the mythical establishment that fathered the concept of the Cabaret.  You will certainly find some hints of Caribbean exoticism in “Ma Biguine” and “Don Quichotte” or a duet with a renowned Martinique singer, Tony Chasseur.   Throughout the album, the voyage will make you question the events and stories you always took for granted; you may find yourself looking at things from a very different viewpoint, and laughing about it! Then you’ll have to figure out for yourself which part is Eden and which part is the Bazaar.
