To celebrate women
I wanted a song that would not talk about women through the prism of their social roles of wife, or mother.
I wanted a song that celebrates the strenght of women: those who endure, those who survive, those who grown, those who pull together, those who dare, those who always move forward…
I wanted a song that explained the “Yaya sisterhood”, this capacity that women have to let go of their differences and fight for a common cause, to unite their strenght and their voices, to say things out loud, and to take the place that is rightfully theirs.
I wanted a song that spoke about them, about who they are, about resilience…
I wrote it. I compared them to river reeds; the reeds we don’t pay much attention to, the reeds that bend in the wind and under storms, the reeds that have roots that transform their vulnerability into strenght.
